United Alliance celebrates former trailblazing Public Servant Marjorie Smith, who was educated on Montserrat and entered the world of work in 1984, with a short stint at the Montserrat Electricity Services Limited. In 1985, her employment in the Montserrat Public Service began, and for the next thirty-seven and a half (37.5) years she served the Government and people of Montserrat with unflinching dedication. She worked in almost every department of Government, covering roles from Clerical Officer to Acting Head of Department. Her final position with the Government of Montserrat was that of Clerk of Cabinet. In this role she professionally, and consistently, ensured that the Executive arm of Government was competently attended to. She provided advice to the Governor, Premier, Ministers of Government, Deputy Governor and senior Public Servants on guidelines and procedures in Cabinet. In a prior role, Mrs Smith also efficiently served the Legislative arm of Government, as Clerk of Councils. She is therefore very knowledgeable of the operations within Government, at the highest level.
Marjorie has decided that the time is right for her to offer herself for service to Montserrat at an even higher level than before. She is offering herself for elective office as a member of the United Alliance. Marjorie is convinced that the United Alliance is the best choice for her as it is for Montserrat. She knows that there is full alignment among her personal vision for Montserrat and the Vision, Principles, Values and plans of the Alliance. Marjorie brings to the political table not only a deep understanding of how government works but a values-based, ethical perspective on life that continues to drive her to help to make Montserrat the best place it can be, despite the challenges it currently faces.
